Wisdom and Compassion with Jan Owen
March 31 - April 5, 2026
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Xo Ki’in Retreat Center in the UNESCO Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, this retreat focuses on the aliveness of connection, also known as compassion.
Chenrezig (Tibetan), or Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit), is the Bodhisattva of Compassion and embodies the loving-kindness of all Buddhas. The Chenrezig meditation practice, or sadhana, is used to cultivate compassion and reveal one’s own innate Buddha nature.
The retreat will take place at Anna Woods’ quiet and intimate retreat center on the water just south of Tulum, known as Xo Ki’in.
All are welcome.
If you would like to arrive early or stay longer at Xo Ki’in, please feel free to reach out. Additional nights at the retreat center are available.

Jan Owen
Jan Owen shares her knowledge, wisdom, and lived experience with warmth, humility, and deep compassion. She was encouraged to teach by Lama Lena, Cherokee Grandmother Redleaf, and Losang Samten. Although she chose not to adopt a formal title, Jan freely offers guidance and presence to those who join her practice groups or seek her teachings.
Jan met Wangdor Rinpoche and Lama Lena in 2009 during Wangdor Rinpoche’s final tour. She felt an immediate connection with both teachers and recognized Lama Lena as her mentor. From that time until 2025, Jan served as Lama Lena’s primary attendant, supporting her work in countless ways. She helped organize teachings, coordinated logistics, and often traveled extensively to assist in bringing these teachings to communities.

What is Dana?
Dana is a Sanskrit word that means “donation” or “yoga of generosity”. In the Buddhist tradition, teachings are given freely so that anyone, no matter their financial means can attend classes. Each time one receives teachings, it is an opportunity to consciously practice generosity. Giving money and other means of support expresses gratitude and support to the teacher and helps to ensure that these teachings continue.
Each person receiving teachings determines the amount of Dana according to one’s heart and one’s financial means. When deciding how much to offer, one should think about what these teachings mean to you and try to give accordingly.
