Healing Ourselves, Healing Others

A meditation retreat for psychotherapists and health care practitioners.

Led by Thomas Minde, MD, family physician and psychotherapist

March 26 - April 1, 2026

In this retreat we will weave together our role as healers with our own spiritual path, deepening our journey in order to better benefit others.

Three main components:

1)        Clinical pearls, how to use our body, speech, mind, energy and awareness in our clinical work – an eclectic mix of tools and approaches

2)        Meditation and morning yoga

3)        Self-care activities

These will be informed by Buddhist practices and philosophy, but will be offered in an open and inclusive manner

In a beautiful, safe and supportive environment we will share and explore what it means to be well, and how to help others to achieve this

We will be particularly interested in energy and in awareness, and how these aspects of our life and our experience can help the healing process

Daily meditation will include the Wheel of Awareness as developed by Dr Dan Siegel, as well as several Buddhist practices

There will be ample time for relaxation and walking on the beach!

Cost includes transport to and from Tulum airport, and a half-day boat tour of the magnificent Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

Xo Ki’in is a delightful retreat centre nestled within the Sian Ka’n reserve.  Facilities are simple but comfortable, and meals are nourishing and delicious.

The retreat capacity is limited to 11 people, which will offer a safe and intimate experience for all.

Meet the Instructor

  • Thomas Minde

Thomas Minde is a family physician and psychotherapist who spent many years working in the Ottawa area and now makes his home near Montreal. His teaching experience includes the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Palyul Centre, and he currently teaches in the Department of Family Medicine at McGill University in Vaudreuil.

A long-time practitioner in the Palyul lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, Thomas has received extensive teachings and empowerments from his root teachers, the late Pema Norbu Rinpoche and Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche. His training includes an eight-year cycle of summer retreats at the Palyul retreat centre in upstate New York, covering all the major teachings of the tradition, as well as numerous solitary retreats.

Bridging Buddhism, medicine, and western psychology, Thomas brings a wide range of approaches to both his therapy and Dharma work. His teaching draws from practices that engage thoughts, emotions, energetic experience, and the body. At the center of his interest is the exploration of Awareness itself, the essence of the Dzogchen view that reminds us that everything is already complete and invites a direct connection with this simple yet elusive truth.

Students and clients appreciate his warm, inclusive presence and his ability to weave together diverse perspectives and methods into a clear and accessible path.
